Megan's Law

Megan's Law is the Pennsylvania legislation requiring convicted sex offenders to register their names, living address, employer, car tabs and other official information on the state's sex offender registry. As of December 2012, the rules for who must register as a Megan's Law sex offender in Pennsylvania changed drastically and the law is now referred to as the Adam Walsh Act.

Sex Offender Registration And Community Notification Laws Have Changed

If you are currently incarcerated or on parole or probation for a sexual offense, you will be forced to register under the new law, even if your offense was not a Megan's Law offense at the time of your conviction.

Under the new law, sex offenders are classified by three tiers. Tier I offenders will have to register for 15 years. Tier II offenders will have to register for 25 years. Tier III offenders will have to register for life. If you are currently serving a period of incarceration for a sexual offense, are currently on parole or probation for a sexual offense, or are currently a Megan's Law registrant, the new law will affect you. Additionally, these new changes regarding community notification will affect individuals charged with sex offender registration offenses that did not previously come under the umbrella of Megan's Law. Crimes such as stalking, indecent assault and certain types of corruption of minors charges now require that an individual pleading or found guilty to such a crime must register under Megan's Law.
