Aggressive Defense Against Felony Charges

Felonies are the most serious types of charges in the criminal justice system. Convictions result in not only prison time, but also a slew of other consequences: hefty fines, damage to your reputation, potential loss of your driver’s license and a permanent criminal record, to name a few.

Categorizing Felony Charges

Pennsylvania categorizes most felonies into three divisions:

  • First-degree felonies, such as rape or voluntary manslaughter, carry fines of up to $25,000 and possible prison time of up to 20 years.
  • Second-degree felonies, including burglary and sexual assault, have a maximum prison sentence of 10 years and possible fines of up to $25,000.
  • Third-degree felonies, such as terroristic threats and carrying a gun without a permit, carry fines of up to $15,000 and a prison term of up to seven years.

The courts also impose mandatory minimums for certain crimes, meaning a conviction will lead to a minimum amount of time spent behind bars. When determining a sentence, judges must also consider mitigating and aggravating factors, such as the severity of the crime and a prior pattern of misconduct.

More Than Your Liberty On The Line

Aside from the stiff punishments, a felony charge can carry lifelong ramifications. Felony charges can damage your reputation and affect your career. If convicted of a felony, you will lose your rights to vote, own a firearm and serve in a public office.
