A man who was convicted of possessing, receiving and distributing child pornography in May was sentenced last month to 12 years in prison. The man — a former Army colonel — cried when he heard the sentence. On top of the time in prison, he will have to serve 10 years of supervised release once he gets out of prison.
During his term in the military, he supervised the strategic war gaming division. When he was caught distributing and receiving child pornography in 2013, he blamed the occurrence on his wife. Ultimately, he apologized in court for his actions.
The former Army officer was also convicted during a military court martial proceeding for pornography charges. He is currently serving a 48-month sentence in Fort Leavenworth Prison. That prison term will be served concurrently with his new sentence.
This man’s entire life has been upended by these charges. He was discharged from his career in the Army when he was arrested in 2013. Now he is facing time in prison and his entire life is negatively affected. He said that he didn’t see the human side of the child pornography with which he was associated. This is an important point to think about.
Some of those who are facing pornography charges like this don’t really think about the humans who are behind the images. This can make it seem like they aren’t doing anything wrong. However, once they think about it, they realize the error of their thinking.
