In this day and age, almost everything is doing via technology. Whether it be reading the news or socializing with friends, there is a variety of things that can be done by utilizing technology and the internet. When using the internet, it is not uncommon to face harassment over the internet. In Pennsylvania, harassing someone else online is a serious offense. child endangerment This offense is known as cyber harassment of a child. A person commits cyber harassment of a child if he, with intent to harass, annoy or alarm, the person engages in a continuing course of conduct of making any of the following by electronic means directly to a child or by publication through an electronic social media service: seriously disparaging statement or opinion about the child’s physical characteristics, sexuality, sexual activity or mental or physical health or condition; or threat to inflict harm. Cyber harassment of a child is a serious offense that is not taken lightly.

If you commit cyber harassment of a child, you may face harsh penalties. If you commit cyber harassment of a child, you are committing a misdemeanor of the third degree. If you are found guilty, you face a possible penalty of up to one year imprisonment and/or fines up to $2,000. If you are a juvenile charged harassment with this offense, you may be considered for referral to a diversionary program. Part of the diversionary program  may require you to participate in an educational program which includes the legal and nonlegal consequences of cyber harassment. If you are a juvenile and successfully complete the diversionary program, your records of the charge shall be expunged.
